THE STORY
As part of the City of Dearborn’s Park Equity and Access for Civil Engagement (PEACE) initiative, the Mayor of Dearborn, Michigan, commissioned Imagine Design and Build to develop a contemporary civic space focused on strengthening community connection. The project is guided by two primary objectives: environmental sustainability and social unification. The city’s investment in expanded green infrastructure responds to a broader need for accessible public space and improved stormwater management systems. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative also aims to reconnect neighborhoods and revitalize the surrounding business district with a flexible public realm that supports recreation, programming, and citywide events.
THE DETAILS
The park extends outward into a pedestrian plaza opposite the main entrance, offering shaded seating integrated among surrounding restaurants and retail spaces. Visitors are welcomed through a geometric archway that functions as a sculptural gateway, establishing a clear identity for the space while inviting open access.
A network of pedestrian pathways spans the site, designed to encourage movement, circulation, and exercise while also supporting stormwater mitigation through its layout and materials. At the center of the park, a sundial serves as a symbolic focal point, referencing themes of balance, harmony, and history.
Throughout the space, ADA-accessible seating, benches, and shaded gathering areas are distributed to encourage comfort, conversation, and inclusivity. The park also accommodates flexible programming, with dedicated areas for vendors, food trucks, and public entertainment along expansive concrete promenades and a large central stage designed to support community-scale events.
The Features

The Plaza
A checkered plaza shaded by abstract sails is centered between local businesses. Pick up your lunch and watch the grand entrance emerge as you step closer.

The Grand Entrance
A geometric arch towers over the park, promoting unity and peace as visitors enter the space.

The Pedestrian Walkways
Built for high foot traffic, these walkways provide comfort and ample space for users. The commercial-grade pavers also provide optimal stormwater management.

The Modular Seating
Shaded benching throughout the park sits on eco-friendly slabs and steppers, with pockets of green accenting each space.

The Sundial
The park's unique centerpiece promotes harmony and inspiration to onlookers.

The Pavillion
A floral pavilion is accented by pavers and Raffinato caps for entertainment, activity, and structural resting areas.

The Stage
A fully lit stage brightens the night sky and provides room for community events and gatherings.
