This 2-acre parcel adjacent to Dearborn’s City Hall dates back to the 1920s, and serves as the second installation of the PEACE initiative. The design approach reinterprets the site’s historic significance through a contemporary lens, creating a civic landscape that honors the past while introducing a modern framework for gathering, reflection, and community engagement.

Smooth Blu slabs by Techo-Bloc span approximately 11,000 square feet of the park and were selected for their timeless appearance and HD2 performance technology, providing both durability and refined visual continuity. Three Imagine arches establish the primary entry sequence, framing a direct sightline toward the “Uni-Hands” turf sculpture, which serves as a central symbolic gesture representing unity and collective participation.

 

Throughout the site, interspersed turf art functions as transitional moments between programmed zones, guiding movement across walkways, seating areas, and interactive features. These soft accents help dissolve boundaries between built elements and open space, reinforcing a fluid, connected experience.

 

At the heart of the park, a life-size chess board is constructed using 36-inch by 36-inch Industria slabs in Chestnut Brown and Beige Cream. As one of the world’s oldest strategy games, chess becomes both an interactive amenity and a conceptual anchor for the site - bringing together themes of history, movement, nature, and community within a unified civic landscape.
